Center for Glenwood Archival Collection
Mission Statement
Reflective of Glenwood Cemetery’s long history of serving the public are voluminous archival records and original source holdings that document its residents and operations for over 150 years. These records contain the day-to-day business of the Cemetery and serve to memorialize the people interred there, revealing a vast store of genealogical and historical information.
Our mission for the Glenwood Cemetery Archive is to acquire, preserve, and maintain these unique and original records. These documents are primary sources of information and cannot be found in any other repository around the world.

Collection 23: Horticultural
This collection aims to document and preserve horticultural artifacts and information related to Glenwood Cemetery, including details about arboretums, wildlife, the new greenhouse, and other relevant landscape elements.
Annual Vinca
Axillary, solitary flowers in colors from rosy pink to white, green calyx featuring subulate lobes.
Blue Mistflower
Short clusters of flowers form a flat top with bright blue or violet disc flowers about 1/4 inch long.
Blue Sage
Dark blue to white tubular flowers cluster in whorls along upper stems, forming a 3–9 in. spike. The plant features numerous gray-green lance-shaped leaves.
Carnations
A perennial herb native to the Mediterranean region with an herbaceous, woody base and narrow, gray-green leaves.
Chrysanthemum
Colorful, perennial plants with diverse flower forms, ranging from simple daisy-like blooms to complex 'spider' and 'pompon' shapes.
English Ivy Leaf
Woody evergreen vine with juvenile palmately lobed leaves that climb aggressively via aerial rootlets.
Few Leaf Sunflower
Large, long-stalked, ovate to oblong-lanceolate, basal leaves (to 8” long) form a 4–8” tall foliage clump.
Lily-of-the-Incas
Terminal clusters of small, lily-like flowers top slender, upright stems growing in bushy clumps to 2–3' tall. Flowers in yellow or orange, often with spotting and streaking.
Powderpuff
A fast-growing, thornless native groundcover with sensitive leaves that fold when touched, featuring showy pink, ball-shaped flowers from spring to summer.
Purple Coneflower
Herbaceous perennial with showy, daisy-like flowers that have drooping purplish-pink petals and a prominent, spiny, brown-orange central cone.
Red Spider Lily
6-parted, red, funnel-shaped, the lobes strongly reflexed and wavy. The stamens are exserted and resemble spider legs.
Sacred Bamboo Leaf
Rhizomatous evergreen shrub featuring delicate, lacy tripinnately compound foliage and bright red winter berries.
Scarlet Sage
Several whorls of red to pinkish flowers form an interrupted spike on a square stem.

The Archival collection is available for study and research; however, to preserve original documents and photographs and to maintain the integrity of the collection, none of the materials are allowed to leave the archives or to be reproduced without authorization.
