Mission Statement
Reflective of Glenwood Cemetery’s long history of serving the public are voluminous archival records and original source holdings that document its residents and operations for over 150 years. These records contain the day-to-day business of the Cemetery and serve to memorialize the people interred there, revealing a vast store of genealogical and historical information.
Our mission for the Glenwood Cemetery Archive is to acquire, preserve, and maintain these unique and original records. These documents are primary sources of information and cannot be found in any other repository around the world.

1888 Hollingsworth Survey of Glenwood Cemetery

This drawing, measuring 13" x 8" and dated January 1888, depicts land located on the north side of the Buffalo Bayou. It is believed to represent specific portions of Lot No. 3 and Lot No. 4 within the Hollingsworth Survey, an important land assessment from that period. The artwork features the Glenwood fence line, which delineates the boundary between Lots 3 and 4. Additionally, a handwritten notation reading "Proetzel" is included, suggesting the involvement or significance of an individual associated with the property.
The map serves as a significant historical artifact, offering a glimpse into the rich landscape and cultural context of Glenwood Cemetery during the late 19th century.

The item exhibits numerous creases and folds, resulting in a worn and aged appearance. There are notable rips along the edges of the document, detracting from its overall integrity. Furthermore, the ink from pen markings has bled significantly, creating unsightly smudges that obscure portions of the text and diminish readability.

The Archival collection is available for study and research; however, to preserve original documents and photographs and to maintain the integrity of the collection, none of the materials are allowed to leave the archives or to be reproduced without authorization.
